Liberty Virtual Learning Program
Immediate Supervisor: Director of Patriot Academy, Chief Academic Officer
Appointment:
Certified staff shall be appointed annually, upon the recommendation of the Director of Patriot Academy and Chief Academic Officer to the Superintendent.
Qualifications: K-5 Certification Required
- Shall hold a Bachelor's Degree and the required Kentucky certificate for the assigned position. Master's Degree or Rank I certification preferred.
- Special consideration will be given for applicants with mathematics experience, special education or behavior certification.
- Shall demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, peers, adults, and families.
- Shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and faculty.
- Shall be detail oriented to meet multiple job requirements and responsibilities.
- K-5 Certification & Teaching Experience Required
Job Goal:
To lead students toward fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth while implementing all goals and objectives of the Liberty Virtual Learning Program.
Duties and Performance Responsibilities:
- Shall take appropriate action within clearly defined state and district guidelines.
- Shall present a positive image of the school to parents, and convey to them the school's genuine concern with the education, growth and development of each student.
- Shall seek to establish friendly and cooperative partnerships between home and school.
- Shall work to develop a positive public relationship between the school district and the community, including families of home schooled children.
- Shall carry out all assignments in a timely manner without undue checking or follow-up.
- Shall react positively to directives.
- Shall have a willingness to cooperate with the superintendent, district administrators, principals, staff, and families.
- Shall ensure virtual curriculum is aligned to the district's in-person curriculum and modify content as needed.
- Shall maintain the confidentiality, both verbally and in written form, of each student's educational record.
- Shall check in twice per day with K-5 students/parents/families and weekly with 6-12 students/parents/families.
- Shall monitor and track progress of each student and have ongoing communication with students and families to ensure work is completed successfully.
- Shall provide ongoing help and support to students who need additional support and interventions.
- Shall strive to maintain and improve professional competence and continuous improvement of the program.
- Shall take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Shall adhere to the School Board of Education Policies and Procedures and State Regulations and Statutes.
- Shall verify students with IEPs are receiving services as required.
- Shall participate in professional learning opportunities and professional organizations.
- Shall participate in the development and review of policies and procedures annually to be reviewed and approved by the local board of education.
- Shall write and speak effectively with all stakeholders.
- Shall develop a calendar of in-person learning events for all virtual students on a regular basis.
- Shall be an effective team member.
- Shall complete other duties as assigned.
Demonstrates Knowledge of Content
- Shall communicate a breadth of content knowledge across the discipline(s) to be taught, special consideration given to mathematics experience.
- Shall communicate a current knowledge of the discipline(s) taught.
- Shall demonstrate a general knowledge that allows for the integration of ideas and information across the disciplines.
- Shall demonstrate an overall knowledge of the virtual program and can effectively implement a multi-faceted approach to virtual learning (virtual support, on-site support, etc.).
- Shall connect content knowledge to real-world applications and provide hands-on opportunities to demonstrate the Profile of a Patriot competencies.
- Shall plan lessons and develop instructional material that reflects knowledge of current constructs and principles of the discipline(s) being taught.
- Shall analyze sources of factual information for accuracy.
- Shall present content in a manner that reflects sensitivity to a multicultural and global perspective.
- Shall collaborate with teachers in other disciplines to analyze and structure cross-disciplinary approaches to instruction.
Designs/Plan Instruction
- Shall focus instruction on the virtual curriculum chosen by the district and be able to modify content in a way that aligns with the other schools in the district.
- Shall develop instruction that requires students to apply knowledge, skills, and thinking processes through in-person learning opportunities.
- Shall integrate skills, thinking processes, and content across disciplines and support students who need additional help.
- Shall create and utilize learning experiences that challenge, motivate and actively involve the learners in a developmentally appropriate way.
- Shall develop and incorporate strategies and schedules that address physical, social, emotional, and cultural and that show sensitivity to differences.
- Shall ensure all virtual students have access to WIFI and devices that allow them access to the virtual curriculum.
- Shall secure and use a variety of appropriate school and community resources to support learning. Shall develop and incorporate learning experiences that encourage students to be adaptable, flexible, resourceful, and creative.
- Shall use the knowledge acquired from past teaching experiences to anticipate instructional challenges.
Creates/Maintains Learning Climate
- Shall communicate with and challenge students in a supportive manner and provide students with feedback if they are not making adequate progress.
- Shall show consistent sensitivity to individuals and families.
- Shall maintain positive classroom interaction by establishing appropriate expectations during in-person group activities.

Implements/Manages Instruction
- Shall communicate specific goals and high expectations for learning and get parent/guardian signatures on contracts.
- Shall connect learning with a student's prior knowledge, experiences and backgrounds, and aspirations for future roles identified in their ILP.
- Shall ensure ILPs are completed prior to the end of the year for 6th-12th graders.
- Shall use appropriate questioning strategies to help students solve problems and think critically when additional support is needed.
- Shall demonstrate interpersonal/team membership skills and supportive behavior with students in facilitating instruction.
- Shall effectively use technologies and virtual curriculum with each student and provide assistance to students and families.
- Shall identify student misconceptions; provide guidance; and offer students continuous feedback on progress toward expectations.
Assesses and Communicates Learning Results
- Shall monitor assessment data of all virtual students.
- Shall collect and analyze assessment data and maintain up-to-date records of student progress, including a minimum of weekly updates to all records.
- Shall communicate expectations, student progress, and student completion and grades of each course.
Engages in Professional Development
- Shall establishes priorities for professional growth.
- Shall analyze student performance and program outcomes to help identify professional development needs.
- Shall solicit input from others in the creation of individual professional development plans.
- Shall apply the knowledge, skills, and processes acquired through professional development.
- Shall modify own professional development plan to improve instructional performance and to promote student learning.
Demonstrates Implementation of Technology
- Shall operate a computer and peripherals to install and use a variety of software; Demonstrate proficiency with the virtual curriculum being used.
- Shall demonstrate knowledge of the use of technology in business, industry, and society.
- Shall create multimedia presentations when necessary.
- Shall use the computer to do word processing, create databases and spreadsheets, access electronic mail daily to enhance professional productivity and support instruction.
- Shall use computers and other technologies such as interactive instruction, audio/video conferencing, and other distance learning applications to enhance professional productivity and support instruction.
- Shall practice equitable and legal use of computers and technology in professional activities.
- Shall facilitate the lifelong learning of self and others through the use of technology.
- Shall apply research-based instructional practices that use computers and other technology.
- Shall use computers and other technology for individual, small group, and large group learning activities and/or daily check-ins.
- Shall instruct and monitor students in the ethical and legal use of technology.
Days of Employment Up to 200 days
Terms of Employment:
Basic contract is for the minimum school term as reflected in the school calendar for the current year with the salary determined by the District Board-approved salary schedule. Additional duties may be assigned with increments for them determined by the District Board-approved Extra Service Schedule. K-5 Certification & Teaching Experience Required

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
