Position Summary:  Provide students with learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills to be productive members of society.  Ensure opportunities for students to attain information, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for a smooth transition from grade to grade, school to school and ultimately school to life.  A virtual teacher must be accessible to students via email, phone, or GoogleMeets. The virtual teacher will monitor and track individual student progress, engagement, and achievement and provide direction as needed. 

Qualifications:  

  1. Oklahoma State Department of Education Teacher Certification with Endorsements for Subject/Grade Level is required.
  2. Highly Qualified in Assigned Area(s) is required.

The Board of Education and Superintendent may approve alternatives to some of the listed qualifications.

Customer Contacts (Internal and External):

• Internal: Administration, teachers, students, support staff.

• External: Parents, community agencies.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Satisfies the expectations of the Standards of Performance and Conduct for Teachers.
  2. Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district
  3. Develops and maintains a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the virtual program in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills
  5. Cooperates and works with other staff members in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to site, district, and state requirements
  6. Develops, implements, and evaluates the virtual program’s curriculum, schedule, philosophy, goals, and objectives reflecting school, District and state goals and standards
  7. Plans and delivers instructional/learning strategies and activities designed to meet the individual interests, needs, and abilities of each student. Knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for virtual learning
  8. Demonstrate operational knowledge of Google products, internet, and web-related technologies
  9. Conducts weekly ‘live’ lectures and/or discussions as needed
  10. Quickly identifies and addresses concerns with the course content or technology
  11. Prepares, provides, and maintains, in a timely manner, online resources through the use of a teacher website, Google Classroom, course Learning Management System, email, etc.
  12. Assists students and parents with technical support requests relating to the course interface and student information systems
  13. Performs related tasks of the job

Working Conditions:

Typical working conditions are a climate-controlled environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gasses is very limited.  Noise level is usually moderate as in a normal office environment, and does include sounds of a school hallway, cafeteria/playground environment.  No environmental hazards are encountered in the normal performance of duties.

Physical Demands:

Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.  Work may require occasional pushing, pulling or carrying up to 50 pounds.  Work involves frequent standing, walking and sitting.
