Primary Purpose:
Plan and provide speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, or
language disorders. Assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce
problems or impairments that interfere with their students’ ability to derive full benefit from the
educational program.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’ s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
or
Bachelor’s degree
Valid Texas Education Agency speech therapy certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Experience:
Three years of experience

May direct and monitor the work of speech-language pathology assistant(s) or speech aide(s).*

Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as
assigned; moderate lifting and carrying. May be required to lift and transfer students to and
from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
*Supervisors of licensed speech-language assistants must be licensed by TDLR as speech-
language pathologists. A person with a TEA certificate who is not licensed may not be a
supervisor of a licensed speech-language pathology assistant.
Regularly sit, talk or hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; frequent
repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-50
pounds; occasionally required to stand, walk reach with hands and arms; vision abilities include
close vision; and color vision, regularly work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional
control under stress; the noise level is usually moderate. The employee may spend long hours
in intense concentration which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. There
are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The
employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Predictable and
regular attendance expected.
