Team Manager, Data Quality

Location: US - Remote

Position Summary :

Working remotely, the Team Manager, Data Quality builds and maintains strong relationships with customers and partners while collaborating with school staff and the technology team to ensure accurate and timely reporting of student and staff data for state and federal Department of Education submissions and to support other Pearson Virtual School (PVS) departments. A key aspect of the role is managing a team responsible for producing compliant, high-quality data sets that help maintain funding eligibility. The Team Manager leads major departmental projects as well as recurring student and staff reporting, including data that supports state reporting and customer invoicing across multiple states. The role also prepares ad hoc reports for external audiences, often on short timelines. The ideal candidate brings experience with K-12 reporting requirements and strong skills in data manipulation, report development, and importing/exporting data across applications. In this role, you translate business priorities into clear actions for your team, supervise workflow, assign data validation tasks, and ensure procedures are followed. You resolve escalated quality issues and guide problem-solving, balancing delivery with process assurance.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • People Management:
  • Build and lead a high-performing team (4-6) of Data Integration Analysts located across the country. This includes timely hiring, setting clear expectations, supporting growth and development, and ensuring operational processes and procedures are executed efficiently.
  • Partner with each Data Integration Analyst to establish working agreements with each school, including the creation of RACI charts that clearly define roles and responsibilities.
  • Review project updates to coach analysts and provide quality assurance throughout the reporting process to improve accuracy.
  • Support Data Integration Analysts’ career navigation and development by clarifying role expectations and growth pathways aligned to Pearsons Career Architecture (e.g., progression and promotion readiness), and by providing ongoing coaching and opportunities to build reporting and programming skills (e.g., SQL, SSRS, and Power BI).
  • Process Management:
  • Lead data-reporting projects across multiple PVS and Connections Academy locations. Monitor progress, provide status updates, coordinate project tasks, and communicate effectively within PVS.
  • Identify and implement changes that result in process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Create and maintain SQL queries and Power BI reports to support state reporting and corporate requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with colleagues, your manager, and school personnel on priorities, risks, and deliverables, partnering with school-based data staff to ensure accurate, on-time reporting.
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions that improve efficiency and quality, leveraging contemporary tools (including automation and AI) to streamline workflows and strengthen data validation.
  • Assist with developing new procedures and overseeing implementation and evolution of existing procedures for reporting to external audiences including government agencies, funding sources, school boards, charter authorizers, etc.
  • Reporting:
  • For at least one school, manage student, staff, and course data sets. Partner with school personnel and program and district liaisons to monitor data for inconsistencies, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions and prevention plans.
  • Create ad hoc reports (e.g., enrollment, attendance, and student performance) for internal stakeholders and external audiences.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) :

  • On-time, high-accuracy data outputs
  • Up-to-date documentation
  • Adherence to validation procedures
  • Minimal recurring errors (trend reduction through root-cause fixes)
  • Proactive audit response (timely evidence and issue remediation)
  • Process improvements that measurably increase quality and/or efficiency

Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in educational reporting, with experience in K-12 education and/or state educational reporting
  • Strong analytical skills, including advanced Excel, experience working with large data sets from multiple sources, and working knowledge of relational databases
  • Experience with reporting and workflow tools, such as SQL, Power BI, Smartsheet, Power Automate, Copilot (or similar), and Student Information Systems
  • 1+ years of project management experience with demonstrated results; prior experience leading or managing others preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Commitment to establishing and following data management and quality control procedures, with comfort learning and using new technology

Capabilities :

  • Customer Centric - Maintains a strong customer mindset (internal and external) and advocates for customer needs. Builds productive partnerships to improve customer experience and outcomes.
  • Delivering Financial Results - Demonstrates a strong track record of delivering against budgets and commitments.
  • Communications - A highly effective, persuasive communicator who builds trust with customers and stakeholders, including in challenging situations, and delivers clear messages that drive alignment and action.
  • Works Well in a Matrix - Collaborates effectively across teams, solves problems with peers, and builds trust and shared accountability.
