The grant-funded Social Work Recruitment and Placement Specialist provides support to the Master of Social Work Program regarding administration of the California Social Work Education Capacity Expansion grant (SWECE). In alignment with the SWECE grant, position responsibilities include outreach, recruitment, and student field placement in underserved California communities, in collaboration with Strategic Partnership Associates and Social Work faculty and staff. The Social Work Recruitment and Placement Specialist works closely with the MSW Program Director to ensure that the grant parameters are being met and works closely with the MSW Field Director regarding field placements. This grant-funded position is anticipated to end by July 2027.

Remote location: California
Special Condition: Travel within California is required approximately 1-4 times a year.

The hiring range for this position is $23.00 - $29.00 per hour. Offers are determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: geographical location, knowledge, skills, years & depth of experience, and equity with internal team members.

TYPE OF SUPERVISION:

Receive close supervision from the Associate Dean of Social Work.

  • Close Supervision — indicates that the incumbent is assigned duties according to specific procedures. Work is checked frequently, and in addition there may be formal training.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • In collaboration with the Strategic Partnership team, perform social work-informed outreach in underserved California communities to publicize the MSW program and recruit students, especially students from underrepresented populations.
  • Engage in outreach and recruitment of students in underserved California communities for the MSW program and for subsequent field placement in their communities.
  • Support students with locating field sites.
  • Identify and vet agencies in underserved California communities to serve as field placement sites for MSW students.
  • Manage field placement process for students at those agencies and ensure that applicable students are placed at appropriate field sites that satisfy the SWECE grant’s criteria.
  • Serve as university liaison and representative around field placement inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Respond to student questions about the field placement.
  • Respond to students, site supervisors, and agency director’s questions about field placement.
  • Troubleshoot with the field director, field instructors and liaisons student problems that emerge at field placement sites.
  • Educate students, directors of sites, and site supervisors about field policies and expectations
  • Perform other duties related to the SWECE grant, as assigned.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES:

  • Master of Social Work degree from a CSWE-accredited MSW program
  • 2 years post-master’s experience as a social worker.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of academic processes in college/university setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, demonstrate tact and diplomacy, and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative environment.
  • Substantial experience in an academic environment is desired.

Machines, Tools, Equipment, Electronic Devices and Software: Strong competence in Microsoft Office is expected. Knowledge of SharePoint and Sonia is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Working conditions are generally normal for an office environment. Position may be required to work flexible hours given the varied availabilities of field site agency personnel and other stakeholders. California residency is preferred, as some travel within California may be required. Applicants for this position are subject to a background check and a criminal history review.
