How can you make an impact?
The Senior Custom Content Project Manager is an experienced production professional responsible for managing custom print projects from scoping through delivery and supporting courseware production for up to moderately complex custom projects. This role applies deep knowledge of custom content workflows, production standards, vendor processes, and delivery requirements to ensure projects are executed in scope, on time, and with consistent quality. The Senior Custom Content Project Manager serves as a trusted resource for internal partners and contractors, mentor’s contractors on production SOPs, and supports operational consistency through expertise, influence, and disciplined execution without direct people management responsibility or direct customer interaction on digital projects.
This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.
What you will be doing:
- Manage Senior-Level Custom Print Production: Own custom print projects from scoping through delivery, coordinating scope, schedules, production requirements, vendor handoffs, proofing, risk mitigation, quality expectations, and delivery milestones. Apply experienced judgment to identify constraints, resolve issues, and ensure print products are delivered accurately, on time, and aligned to approved project requirements.
- Support Courseware Production for Moderately Complex Projects: Manage production execution for courseware projects up to moderate complexity, including coordination of asset readiness, customization requirements, accessibility considerations, platform limitations, quality checks, and internal delivery dependencies. Escalate highly complex or ambiguous courseware needs appropriately while maintaining accountability for assigned production outcomes.
- Provide Experienced CPM Expertise and Operational Guidance: Serve as an experienced Custom Content Project Manager who applies strong working knowledge of custom print, digital production, vendor processes, production tools, documentation standards, and internal workflows. Translate requirements into clear internal execution plans and help standardize approaches that improve quality, consistency, and speed across assigned work.
- Mentor Contractors on Production SOPs: Guide contractors on production SOPs, documentation expectations, workflow steps, handoff requirements, quality standards, and issue-resolution practices. Support contractor effectiveness through examples, reusable guidance, timely consultation, and reinforcement of standard operating procedures without direct people management responsibility.
- Maintain Internal Communication and Production Visibility: Maintain accurate project information, communicate status, risks, dependencies, and next steps to internal stakeholders, and ensure production data remains current in designated systems. For digital courseware work, focus on internal coordination and execution with no direct customer interaction.
- Support Operational Consistency and Continuous Improvement: Identify recurring production issues, documentation gaps, workflow friction, and opportunities to improve execution consistency. Recommend practical improvements, reinforce approved processes, and contribute to operational practices that reduce rework, strengthen vendor handoffs, and improve delivery outcomes across custom print and courseware workflows.
You should apply if you have:
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of applicable experience in project management, custom content production, print production, digital content production, courseware production, educational technology, or related content delivery workflows.
- Strong knowledge of custom print production workflows, scoping practices, vendor handoffs, proofing cycles, production dependencies, and delivery requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to manage custom print projects from scoping through delivery and courseware production projects up to moderate complexity.
- Strong project management, problem-solving, prioritization, risk management, and organizational skills with a focus on quality, accessibility, accuracy, and on-time delivery.
- Ability to mentor contractors and support consistent execution through SOPs, clear documentation, reusable guidance, and influence rather than direct people management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide concise internal status updates, clarify requirements, and document production decisions.
- Experience partnering with internal production teams and vendors to resolve issues, maintain accountability, and strengthen production outcomes.
- Knowledge of McGraw Hill systems, tools, processes, and content production standards, or demonstrated ability to quickly develop expertise in complex proprietary workflows.
Preferred:
- Experience with McGraw Hill custom content workflows, Smartsheet, Jira, HTML, AWS Cloud, accessibility standards, vendor-managed production processes, custom print workflows, and courseware authoring or delivery tools.
