Job Description

The Department of Special Education at the Sanford College of Education, National University invites applications for Part-time Faculty to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses that prepare candidates for Special Education teaching credentials in California. Part-time faculty support the preparation of future educators who will work with TK–12 students with disabilities in inclusive and specialized settings.

Essential Job Duties:

Part-time faculty responsibilities include:

  • Teaching assigned courses in Special Education aligned with program curriculum and course learning outcomes.
  • Supporting teacher candidates in developing evidence-based instructional practices for students with disabilities.
  • Providing timely, meaningful feedback on assignments and assessments.
  • Maintaining regular communication with students and responding to inquiries within 48 hours.
  • Ensuring coursework aligns with state standards and credential program expectations.
  • Collaborating with course leads and department leadership to ensure consistency across program courses.
  • Maintaining awareness of state requirements related to teacher preparation and credentialing.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's degree in education, Special Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Valid California teaching credential in Special Education* issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, or an equivalent out-of-state teaching credential with eligibility for California licensure through reciprocity.
  • Added authorizations required for Autism and CLAD or equivalent authorizations.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in TK–12 settings, preferably serving students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), California Multi-Tiered System of Supports (CA MTSS), and inclusive instructional practices.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting diverse learners, including students with disabilities and/or multilingual learners.

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching online in teacher preparation or higher education.
  • Experience supporting teacher candidates during fieldwork or clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and data-driven instructional practices.
  • Experience teaching in online learning environments.
