The Dyslexia Specialist supports students in meeting their goals, ensures provision of appropriate accommodations and modifications according to the Individual Dyslexia Plans for the student, and manages the overall learning process for students with Dyslexia eligibility.



This position is for an immediate start within school year 23/24



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.


Instructional


  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure they are implementing the students 504 Plan and/or IEP;
  • Provide input development and implementation of 504 Plans and/or IEP on attainment of academic standards defined by the state;
  • Evaluate and review student progress on a regular basis and annually;
  • Attend 504/IEP meetings timely and according to applicable protocols;
  • Input student data in appropriate systems and maintain other student records as needed in a compliant manner;
  • Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, professional development (virtual and face-to-face) and school committees;

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.


MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or similar area of study AND
  • Four (4) years of related work experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

  • English Language Learner (ELL) Certification

Residency Requirement:


  • This position is virtual and strongly prefer residents of Texas. May consider residents of surrounding states (NM, OK, AR or LA). This position could include travel up to 20% of the time for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or as required by the school.

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Understanding of applicable sections of the state education laws and other pertinent regulations;
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Demonstrates the use of good judgment in decision-making;
  • Great organizational and time management skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook as well as Internet research methods and report writing techniques; utilizes computer software associated with curriculum;
  • Ability to travel 20% time for work including meetings, testing and professional development;
  • Ability to clear required background check including obtain fingerprint clearance where applicable


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Experience working with proposed age group
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
  • Experience working in a virtual environment
  • Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or in a brick and mortar environment
  • Experience with Blackboard Collaborative or other online platforms
